<p>The 52nd Fighter Wing (All Weather) activated at Mitchel Field, NY in June 1948 operating the P-61. They were redesignated to Fighter All-Weather Wing and Fighter-Interceptor Wing before inactivating in February 1952, having moved to McGuire AFB. The designated changed to 52nd Fighter Wing (Air Defense) and was activated at Suffolk County AFB, NY in July 1963 with the F-101B, and later inactivated in September 1968. The unit became the 52nd Tactical Fighter Wing and reactivated at Spangdahlem AB in December 1971, assuming responsibility for the squadrons formerly under 36th TFW control. They operated in the 'Wild Weasel' 'hunter-killer' role with the F-4C and D models before converting to the F-4E and F-4G. The F-16C replaced the F-4E in 1987. F-4G's from the wing operated from Sheikh Isa, Bahrain during Desert Storm while other F-4Gs and F-16Cs were stationed at Incirlik AB. The unit became a Fighter Wing in October 1991. The OA/A-10As were transferred from Alconbury in 1993, followed by the F-15C/D from the 36th FW at Bitburg in 1994.
